You are getting ready to sell your home . . .  should you stage it? Good question. A great realtor can probably help with that decision because they better understand the market and the expectations of potential buyers. If you and your realtor decide to stage your home, here are a few tips to consider.
  • De-clutter
  • Simplify
  • De-decorate
  • Clean
  • Repair/Repaint
  • Consider a professional
Let’s review each point . . . De-clutter Let’s be honest, our homes sometimes get a little cluttered. Clutter might be paperwork, toys, and other stuff that should be in cabinets or closets. However, closets and cabinets can be “over stuffed”. Consider cleaning the clutter up or even out. Unneeded things can be sold or donated. Your home needs to put its best foot forward for potential buyers. Simplify While lots of furniture may be cozy, it can make a room or home look less spacious. Consider storing some of it. If it won’t be going with you to your new home, consider selling, donating, or disposing of it. Walls filled with dozens of pictures might close in a room as well—pack some of them up for the move. De-decorate Do you like a style or taste that isn’t shared by many people? Perhaps, you have a collection prominently displayed? It might be beneficial to pack up some things for the move prior to showings. Buyers can be distracted from what you are really selling, your lovely home that they will transform into their lovely home. Neutral and non-distracting helps if the goal is to sell your home. Clean Are there some cleaning jobs that have been put off? Now is the time to do them. Windows, pet damage, stains are all possible things to consider. Repair/Repaint Beyond cleaning, are there some repairs you have put off? Dripping faucets, old paint colors, holes in the wall? Walk around with your realtor and identify little projects that should be completed. Your realtor probably has resources who can quickly and affordably help. Consider a professional If you aren’t up for the task, your realtor can certainly point you to professional organizers and home staging professionals. Remember, the idea is to present your home for sale in the best possible light to potential buyers. In closing, selling your home can be daunting, but your realtor can help with home staging recommendations and resources to help maximize your home sale experience.   About Susan Fazio With twenty years of real estate sales experience and an award-winning career as a top local realtor, Susan’s expertise has led her to be named a top agent in all of Somerset County.
